2023 ARDA Award- "Waterfalls"
The waterfall, the curvature of the base trout stream and rock outcroppings, and mountaintops were to be the focal points. We wanted to create a space that was modern, rustic, and just as appealing as the landscape. Capturing all possible moments, a comfortable and cozy space that was conducive to the owner’s love for the outdoors. Multiple mono-slope roof sections, vertical siding, and stone veneers would play off the cascades, flowing waters, and river rocks. High expanses of fixed and sliding glass on multiple sides would provide enclosure while simultaneously allow one to be part of the outdoors and direct engagement to roughly 130 degrees of undisturbed landscape. Strategically placed operable windows allow for the high elevation breezes to naturally refresh the interior. From the heavy snows of Winter to the striking colors of Fall, the structure would maintain its significance and participate.
"From the beginning it was apparent that no matter what habitable space we designed, it would be secondary to the landscape; the natural, pure design must be appreciated.”
- Joel Davis, Designer and Owner of Cornerstone Home Designs.

2024 ARDA Award - "Eclipsa"
“A home set on a secluded mountain ridgeline, the structure marries the landscape with minimal impact, providing multiple layers of functional and low maintenance greenspace. This mountain modern retreat doesn’t disappoint. From the initial driveway approach, the angular configurations and warm earth tones, and towering front columns welcome home its arriving guests. Covered outdoor spaces provide opportunities to stay outside, and when it’s time to come in there’s plenty of glass to bring the outdoors inside with you. An internal environment that can breathe, heal, and recharge. Named Eclipsa- the natural forging of darkness and light- this home’s moody and striking interior design elements allow the tenants to feel the home’s personality. Bright whites playing off the dark elements. Dark tiled walls, black painted timbers and shiplap against the backdrop of crisp lines of white. Expanse of granite with contrasting veins of whites and dark grays. Defying traditional means, the floor plan brings together multiple spatial elements into one entertainment collaboration, where corners retreat and walls of glass disappear behind fireplaces. A large kitchen with ample counterspace and 10’ granite slab island that appears to float are ready to serve and engage with guests from the dining area, living area, and rear deck. A master bath that exudes the same bold elegance of warm dark palettes and niches to seclude oneself; their own private luxury day spa. Whole house solar functionality yet all the necessary components are visually unintrusive. Locally sourced timbers and stone, responsibly sourced floorings, high efficiency heating and cooling, and greenspace that manages itself further reduce the overall impact of this structure. An overall paradise designed and built to enjoy for generations.”
